Mike Riedmiller at Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange
My trip to the New York Stock Exchange and Wall Street earlier this year was very interesting. Seeing the trading on the exchange floor was insightful. The day that I was at the exchange, the market was up.
There has been a lot of volatility in the stock market during most of 2018. Looking back over the past year, there were record highs in the stock market in January followed by some large drops in daily values that we saw in February (over 1,000 points on a couple of different days). The stock market climbed back to new record highs in September, only to see additional massive drops and volatility in October and November.
So what is causing all of this?
It’s been said that the two things that can drive the stock market are fear and greed. There seems to be some uncertainty in the markets right now with the ongoing political fighting in Washington, increasing interest rates, potential trade war and tariffs with China and some global unrest.
There are different predictions about where the markets might be headed in 2019. Unknown future events could cause the market to react in ways that is hard to predict.
