Mike Riedmiller – Forbes BrandVoice Contributor writes about ways to diversify your investments
I am honored to be a Forbes BrandVoice Contributor in which I write about a number of important investment and retirement topics.
Some of my recent articles have included information about longevity risks, stock market volatility and how to potentially diversify and the importance of having a financial plan. You can read some of my recent articles here: https://www.forbes.com/sites/impactpartners/people/mikeriedmiller12/#26b2741651c5
Here are some of the places you could potentially diversify some of your investment dollars…
Annuities could offer you a number of different options and potential benefits. Working with a financial professional can help to sort through the benefits best for your situation.
Life insurance can gain cash value. Whole life can offer guarantees from the insurance company. Indexed universal life can offer higher potential growth.
Savings and Certificates of Deposits (CDs) in the bank can offer some safety. With interest rates historically low, this could be a place for a small part of your portfolio.
Savings bonds are issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Series EE bonds will pay a fixed rate of return. Series I bonds will pay an interest rate that is adjusted for inflation.
Gold, silver, and precious metals is another option that has been around for hundreds of years.
Cryptocurrencies (such as Bitcoin) have recently gained some attention. These have been volatile, and there are many questions about this newer type of currency. While some people feel cryptocurrency could have good upside potential, I would certainly caution anyone about it due to the associated uncertainty.
Owning real estate or a REIT (real estate investment trust) is a way some investors have diversified by having some of their money outside of the stock market. Please always check with your financial professional on whether such an investment would fit your situation. It is always advised to consult both pros and cons.
Art, automobiles, and wine have investment values that can rise over time (generally for knowledgeable investors in these areas). If this collectible does not rise in value, then you at least still have the tangible asset to enjoy.
There are other options in addition to this. Do your research, and investigate the possibility of working with a financial professional that could help you to better achieve your investment goals.
I have also been traveling to investment conferences with my team in order to further my education with the goal of continuing to help my clients achieve their important lifetime goals. Earlier this year I was in Las Vegas for a conference. This month I am in Austin, Texas for another conference. Travel to conferences later this year include San Diego and Los Angeles.
